Boreal Beast Honeyberry produces big berries with bold flavor!
The berries are firm, with a thick, oval shape. The bloom season of this cultivar is relatively late, matching the bloom season of Boreal Blizzard.
These elongated berries, also referred to as Haskaps, are sweet and tart, similar in flavor as blueberries. These fruits are high in antioxidants, as high or higher than blueberries! While ‘Boreal Beast’ isn’t as pretty as ‘Boreal Beauty’ it has remarkable flavor – fresh or frozen.
Boreal Beast has excellent mildew resistance. This cold-hardy berry plant requires about 1,000-1,200 chill hours. Plant honeyberries in rich soil, with a pH between 5-7.
For this specimen to produce, it’ll need a different honeyberry plant that blooms around the same time to pollinate it. Boreal Beast is a pollinator haskap cultivar designed to be planted with other “Boreal” cultivars.
Putting “Beauty” and the “Beast” together will result in a successful harvest for both!
